The Brigadoon chapter of DBE originated in Elizabeth Commiso’s British Tea Room in Humble, Texas. Elizabeth had many customers from all areas of the Commonwealth and there was a great deal of interest.

We applied for our Charter on April 15 th 1987. There were 15 interested ladies and after a vote, BRIGADOON was chosen and became our name. 12 members signed the original Charter granted on April 27 th 1987. Of that 12 only one member is still active in the group. Our members are in Willis, Kingwood and The Woodlands and our meetings vary in location according to hostess.

Within weeks of being chartered, we began our work of raising funds and assisting the organization after we were asked if we would make scones and work with the DAR at the University of the Constitution Anniversary of the Library downtown – That was a blast.

We went to our first ACM in Dallas and received help and advice from many active members. Since we were chartered, there has not been a year when we were not represented at the ACM

We have attended many wonderful fundraisers and teas. We have met the Duchess of Kent, Countess Mountbatten of Burma, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and Princess Alexander. Chapter members have served on the State and National Boards as well as the Board of Mountbatten House.

We have assisted at many Booths at the DBE Festivals. We have made baby quilts, Christmas Ornaments, Peter Rabbit Boutique, and for the last few years we have baked and sold traditional Christmas cakes all made to an authentic British recipe. We try to support other chapter’s luncheons and fundraisers.

We now meet in alternate homes the 3 rd weekend of each month. We have lost many beloved chapter members and friends but have managed to maintain our numbers for the 37 years since we started in that little tearoom, now long gone.
